Obituary of Mary Alice VanSlambrouck

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Alice VanSlambrouck was born in Monroe, Michigan on October 13, 1956.   She was the daughter of James R. VanSlambrouck and June Louise (Maloche) VanSlambrouck.   The family worshipped at St. Joseph Catholic Church where Mary was baptized and confirmed.   Mary attended St. Mary Academy graduating with the Class of 1974.   She continued her studies at Aquinas College earning a Bachelor’s degree in education.

A devout Catholic, Mary stayed active in the St. Joseph Parish serving as the Secretary of religious education for several years.  She later served on the Parish Council at St. John upon the closure of St. Joseph.

Mary was a hard worker and was well-respected wherever she went.   For many years she was employed by Comstock as a nuclear power plant Quality Control engineer working at Fermi II in Newport and later at the Perry Power Plant in Painesville, Ohio.   She also worked for Montgomery Ward in Human Resources.   She retired in 2020 from Sedgwick as a Workman’s Compensation Claims Specialist after twenty years of service.

Mary loved photography and capturing beautiful still life pictures.   Although she never had children of her own, Mary loved all children and was particularly fond of her nieces and nephews, cherishing the time that she shared with each one of them.  She enjoyed arts and crafts, making cards for people's birthdays and making ornaments to gift loved ones.

She had a positive aura and a beautiful smile encouraging many people with daily inspirational Facebook posts.   Unfortunately, much to her own chagrin she was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan.

Mary Alice VanSlambrouck, age 65, of Monroe passed away on Saturday; August 27, 2022, at Beaumont Hospital in Trenton.  Her passing was preceded by her parents; a sister:  Catherine VanSlambrouck Barrett, a brother:  Michael James VanSlambrouck; and two sisters-in-laws: Mary Jane Duran and Debbie Maiden.
