Obituary of Patricia Susan Bogoski
Patricia Susan Leppek was born in Monroe, Michigan on December 7, 1948. She was one of five children born to Louis and Margaret (Snider) Leppek. She was a 1967 graduate of Milan High School in Milan, Michigan.
She wed the love of her life, James Bogoski, on June 21, 1968, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in New Boston, Michigan. The couple honeymooned on Mackinac Island, loving the experience so much that they returned more than thirty times over the years. The Bogoski’s were blessed with two children and nearly fifty-five years of marriage. Pat was employed as a customer service representative for Credit Counseling Center in Monroe for ten years, retiring in 2001. She previously worked at the information desk at the Frenchtown Square Mall in Monroe when it first opened.
Pat took great pride in her home and meticulously cared for the landscaping. She never considered yard work a chore and loved to cut the grass. Her many flowerbeds were lush with Hostas, Coral Bells, and Tulips every season. Pat was equally talented in the kitchen. She baked the best homemade cinnamon rolls and was famous for her delicious stuffed cabbage. Although Pat cooked elaborate meals for everyone else, she never ate them herself and instead preferred to make herself something simple.
After their retirement, Pat and James and veraged 2000 miles per month on their vehicle. Free spirits, they traveled on a whim. The pair thought nothing of hopping in their truck and traveling 200 miles away just for the day. They once followed a car with a Kentucky license plate just to see where they would end up! Frequent destinations included the Lehman's store in Kidron, Ohio, Shipshewana, Indiana, and Traverse City, Michigan to visit friends. During the summer months, they drove to Tecumseh, Michigan almost every weekend to sit on the water and watch the kayakers. Being very personable, Pat struck up conversations with anyone that crossed her path, making friends very easily.
Closer to home, the couple frequently spent their evenings in front of the television tuned into British sitcoms such as "Are You Being Served?" and "As Time Goes By”, as well as murder mystery shows. They were proud supporters of public broadcasting and members of their local PBS station. Pat also had a vast collection of DVD's. She wore out the disc watching her favorite movie, "When Harry Met Sally". Her binge watching was often accompanied by a bowl of ice cream topped with Hershey's chocolate syrup. Pat also enjoyed sitting outside most evenings and taking in the fresh air from the comfort of her porch swing. She had a beautiful mind, typically knowing more trivia than anyone else. Her family joked that she was the original Google. Pat was also known for her beautiful cursive handwriting.
A great listener, Pat was always there to lend an ear. Her family called with their every minor inconvenience and her daughter phoned her several times a day. Pat seemingly managed everyone’s life for them. Being deeply caring and nurturing she offered great advice and was very persuasive! She lovingly visited her mother at the nursing home everyday and took exceptional care of her husband during his illness. A proud grandmother, she was affectionately known as "Gigi".
Patricia Susan Bogoski, age 74, of Carleton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Friday; May 5, 2023. Her passing was preceded by her parents; two brothers: Robert Leppek and Ronald Leppek; a sister: Janet Leppek-Werstein; and her son in-law: Timothy Zorn.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband: James Bogoski; a daughter: Suzanne Zorn; a son: Steve (Terri) Bogoski; five grandchildren: Taylor Bogoski (Corey Yost), Megan (Tyler) Monhollen, Tess Zorn, Madylin Zorn, and Kole Bogoski; seven great grandchildren: James, Joshua, Sydney, Nash, Miles, Cartier, and Aria; a brother: Ray (Lori) Leppek; a sister-in-law: Dianne Leppek; many favorite nieces and nephews; close friend and neighbor: Paulie Yasenchak; and friends: Shirley and Wally Sloan, Denise and Rod Beaton, and George Ealovega.
A Celebration of Patricia’s Life will be held at a later date. Her care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
