Obituary of Daniel Lee Campbell

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel Lee Campbell was born in Sassafras, Kentucky on August 23, 1944.  He was born to the union of Creed Campbell and Emma Bowen Campbell. The youngest of four boys Daniel graduated from Carr Creek High School in Hindman, Kentucky.

Daniel was affectionately known by many names; “Dan”, “Danny”, and “Danny Boy”. On July 24, 1965, Daniel married the love of his life Glenna Couch. And even though he might need to be reminded of their anniversary, he always remembered a card in all the years they shared.  The couple was blessed with two children- Deanna and Barry. To care for the needs of his family, Daniel took employment with General Motors in Toledo.  His career spanned nearly 30 years before his retirement. Daniel served for many years as an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #799 and worshipped at Victory Temple Church of God. Danny would help anyone at any time in any place and was the first to say I Love You when ending a phone call.

Together Danny and Glenna enjoyed traveling the United States.  One of their most memorable journeys was with Glenna’s brother Bobby and wife Brenda out west. Danny loved to camp, and the couple loaded up the whole family, heading over to Nettle Lake with their travel trailer to spend days fishing and lounging by the lake. Being by the water was always an important part of Dan’s life. A member of the Blue Gray Bass Club he was an avid fisherman and also liked to hunt. Danny absolutely loved fishing with his brothers, son, cousins and nephew Kenny. As a young boy he was taught the motto “you eat what you catch”. He later instilled this same mantra with his own children, much to the chagrin of his daughter, who did not care for the fresh smelt he brought home.

In May of 2005, Dan was given a new lease on life when he received a heart transplant. He and his family are forever grateful to the family of Corey Smith whose gift of life gave Danny many more years. These years were spent working on cars and lawnmowers, watching University of Kentucky Basketball, and spending time with his wife, children, and four grandchildren who he loved dearly.

Daniel Lee Campbell age 78, of Erie passed away at home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday; March 22, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents Creed and Emma and his three older brothers: Joe, Jim, and Eddie Ray.
