Obituary of Joan Marie Sexton
Joan Marie Pluff was born in Rockwood, Michigan on September 16, 1932 to Amos and Veronica (Gonyea) Pluff. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Rockwood and later attended trade school in Lincoln Park to learn how to operate a Teletype. In 1952, Joan wed William James Splan Jr. The couple enjoyed twenty-three years of marriage and were blessed with four sons before William’s passing in 1975. Joan later wed Raleigh Sexton. She dedicated her life to caring for her home and family.
Joan had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed dancing to soft rock and big band music. She wouldn’t hesitate to hop on the back of her husband’s motorcycle for day-trips around Michigan. Joan sought to play bingo wherever she could find it and loved working crosswords and puzzle books. She expressed her creativity with crafting and knitting.
Joan was very easy-going and everyone liked her. She’d always greet you with a warm hug. More than anything else, Joan enjoyed spending time with her family. She never passed on an invite to a cookout and always cleared her plate. Joan always kept a pet and had a soft spot in her heart for cats.
Joan M. Splan-Sexton, age 90, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday; October 8, 2022. Her passing was preceded by her parents, her two spouses: William Splan Jr. and Raleigh Sexton; a son: Donald James Splan; and a brother: Edgar Pluff.
To cherish her memory, she leaves three sons: Stephen (Liz) Splan, Keith (Donna) Splan, and Calvin Splan; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A private family gathering was held and cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
