Obituary of Leticia Gomez-De Vega
Leticia was born on November 2, 1961 in Laredo, Mexico. She was one of thirteen children born to Roberto Gomez Sr. and Victoria (Garza) Gomez. At the age of fourteen, Leticia and her family made their home in the United States. As fate would have it, she crossed paths with her future spouse shortly thereafter. It was love at first sight for twelve-year old Steve Vega who told her “I’m going to marry you!”. Steve ensured he had the approval of her father who told him “you can wed Leticia on the condition that you marry in a church and wear a grey tuxedo”. On October 27, 1984 he honored his promise and Leticia wed the love of her life at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Toledo, Ohio. The couple enjoyed thirty-eight years of marriage and were blessed with three children. Leticia devoted her life to caring for her home and family and loved nothing more than spending time with them.
A fun-loving person, Leticia enjoyed word search puzzles, Loteria, and the card game, Conquian. She also played along to her favorite games shows: “The Price is Right”, “Family Feud”, and “Let’s Make a Deal”. Leticia never missed watching her Telenovelas or University of Michigan football games. A super-fan of the musical group, Los Bukis, she considered its vocalist, Marco Antonio Solis, her second husband.
A wonderful cook, Leticia could make anything and expressed her love through food. Her family especially looked forward to her enchiladas. She never let anyone in her presence go hungry. Fiercely independent, Leticia was determined to keep moving forward and never let her illness keep her from getting around. An angel on Earth, she would do anything for anyone. Leticia was a kind and gentle soul who welcomed everyone and made them feel like family.
