Obituary of Peggy Lou Campbell

Peggy Lou Newberry was born on January 19, 1934 in Hartford City, Indiana the only child of Claude S. and Lavara Edna Newberry.   On July 24, 1951 she was married to Jack B. Campbell at Camp Lejune, North Carolina, just before he shipped out to Korea.   The couple was blessed with three boys.

Peggy took employment in the Customer Relations Department of the La-Z-Boy Chair Company in the 1960’s.   It was during this time that she would meet some special professional ladies, eventually becoming a Life Member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority.   While Jack owned and operated Campbell’s Bar, Peggy, had her own labor of love, the Wysoc’s Subshop in Downtown Monroe.   She served up fresh food for seventeen years, and was loved by everyone, developing many wonderful relationships.

Peggy was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Monroe where she taught Sunday School for twelve years.   She was also a Monroe High School Band Booster for fifteen years, receiving a special award from the boosters for her service.   She also received an Outstanding Service Award from Custer School in 1975.

Peggy loved to read, with her favorite topic being that of autobiographies and biographies.   It was quite common to find her latest story on the nightstand by her bed.   She was an avid sports fan, with college football being her favorite, often tuning in to ESPN to keep up on the latest news.   Peggy was always a fixture in the lives of her grandchildren especially when watching their games or having family get togethers.

Her home wasn’t complete without a pet having many dogs and cats over the years and for a time breeding English Springer Spaniels.

Peggy Lou Campbell, age 88, of Monroe passed away on Saturday; July 16, 2022, at Fountainview of Monroe.   Although, she had been in declining health for several years, Peggy was always extremely grateful to the doctors and nurses who cared for her during this time.   Her passing was preceded by her parents, her husband Jack on March 17, 2008, after fifty-seven years of marriage; her son:  Jack on December 23, 2021; and her daughter-in-law:  Deborah on July 1, 2021.

To cherish her memory she leaves two sons:  David Campbell of Monroe and Shawn (Loralyn) Campbell of Manitou Beach, Michigan; a daughter-in-law:  Carrie Campbell of Monroe whom she thought of as a daughter; seven grandchildren:  Jeremy (Katie) Campbell, Kelly Campbell, Ashley (Jason) Daniels, Brianna Daniels, Kaylee Campbell (Jason White), Emily (Chris) Johnson, and Brenden (Haleigh) Campbell; four great grandsons: Landin, Garett, Jaxten, Madox, four great granddaughters:  Zoey, Emilia, Lucinda, and Eliza.
