Obituary of Margaret Ruth Collette

Margaret Ruth (Phillips) Collette, 87, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital in Monroe, Michigan. 

 

Margaret was born on February 7, 1935 in Brown City, Michigan. She was born fourth of seven children from the union of Harold and Josephine (Nolan) Phillips.  Margaret attended Brown City High School in Brown City, Michigan, graduating with the class of 1953.  After graduation, Margaret would further her studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, proudly completing her studies and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing.  During Margaret’s long nursing career, she worked at Detroit Children’s Hospital, Hurley Medical Center and Thumb Correctional Facility until her retirement in 2000.

 

Margaret made her home in several places including Detroit and Lapeer, Michigan and Bowling Green, Kentucky before settling down in Monroe, Michigan. Margaret loved quilting, playing the piano, playing casino slots, thrift shopping and going to garage sales to look for hidden treasures. Margaret had an incredible zest for life, always busy helping her family during both the fun times and in times of need. She especially enjoyed going out to eat and trying new places.  Margaret was especially fond of and dedicated to her family; she spent as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; she will be missed dearly.

 

Her passing was preceded by: her parents, Harold and Josephine Phillips; beloved daughter, Mary Margaret Jarema, five sisters, Jane Dunn, Betty Phillips, Josephine Snoblen, Theresa Beattie, Virginia Bunch and brother Robert Phillips.

 

She leaves six children to cherish her memory:  Victoria Collette of Caseville, MI, Michelle Larkin of Monroe, MI, Jack Collette of Sebewaing, MI, Susan (Patrick) Davidson of Lapeer, MI, Jennifer Collette of Fort Hood, Texas, and Christine (Nathan) Pintacura of Burton, Michigan; eight grandchildren:  Michael Collette, Travis (Renee) Larkin, Nicole (Shaun) Calhoun, Samantha Jarema, Alexandra Smith, Grace (Cole) Hennessey, Ethan Sudbury, and Emma Pintacura; and eleven great grandchildren.

 

No public services are planned, private family services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street Monroe Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation in Erie, Michigan.
