Obituary of Karen Joyce Lewis
Karen Joyce Miller was born at home on June 17, 1940 in Milan, Michigan. She was one of two children born to Wilmer Leroy and Ruth Emma (Keene) Miller. Karen graduated from Milan High School with the Class of 1958. She served as corresponding secretary for the Southeast Zone of the Lutheran Church. A parishioner of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee, Michigan, Karen also served as editor of the church newsletter and taught Sunday school.
As a young woman, Karen worked for S.S. Kresge’s store and Schrafft’s confectionary in Boston, Massachusetts. After she returned to Michigan, she was employed by Dr. Hartman’s office. Karen began working as a custodian at Milan High School in 1978 until her retirement in 1992. During this time she was a Brownie and Junior Girl Scout Leader, Troop Service Director, and Delegate of Huron Valley Girl Scouts. Karen’s love of children led her to open her home as a foster mother for Catholic Social Services from 1965 to 1977.
Karen wed the love of her life, Bruce Ray Lewis, on September 18, 1987. The couple were blessed with twenty-three years of marriage. Karen was an avid fan of NASCAR. She enjoyed fishing and the peacefulness of being out on the lake admiring the flowers and birds.
Karen Joyce Miller, age 82, of Britton, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 20, 2022. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her husband in 2010.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Denise Albright, Barbara Albright, and Kim (William) Coulter; son: Todd Albright; grandchildren: Angela (Clint), Bobby (Kaitlyn), Nick, Michael, Chris, Heather, Ben, DJ, Dustin, and Andrea; eleven great grandchildren; and a great great granddaughter.
Friends may gather on Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 2:00 to 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee, 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131, (734)529-3156. Karen will lie in state from 10:00am until a Worship Service celebrating her life at 11:00am on Friday, June 24, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church, 460 Riley Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 followed by a procession to Maple Grove Cemetery, Dundee.
