I hadn’t taken the opportunity to get to know Don on a personal level, but I had many opportunities to observe the kind of man he was. He and Kathy had the type of marriage that newlyweds envision. They were best friends and always together. As with all relationships, feelings get hurt sometimes, but Don and Kathy knew how to mend feelings gone awry and sooth each other back into their perfectly imperfect love story. A difficult skill to perfect but it showed and they passed it on to their children.
Don’s son Donny is married to my cousin and a big part of our family. He fit into the family the moment we met him. He loves us and cares for us all with such sincerity. When our grandpa passed, it hit him like he’d known grandpa his whole life. I think that Donny is much like his dad in this way, he loves with all his heart and gives his time and attention to those that are important to him. I’m not sure if Don possessed the same entertainment factor as Donny but Donny has great dance moves and always keeps us all laughing with his antics. This is the man that Don and Kathy raised, keeping family close, comfortable and feeling loved. Cole, Donny’s son, is a replica of Don and Donny. Cole is respectful, kind and encouraging. He holds his family close to his heart and always makes sure he is present and available to his parents, grandparents, sister and cousins. I believe this was an instilled behavior from his parents and grandparents. Like most things in Cole’s life, he gives his family 110%. Don was proud of all of his grandchildren, but Cole was his only grandson and they shared a special bond. A son will always hold a special place in a fathers heart, especially if he’s the only one. I think that’s what makes Don, Donny and Cole’s relationship so unique, you can see the trickle affect of Don in both Donny and Cole.
Donny and his immediate family have been an integral part our lives. Different pockets of our family have spent time with Don and Kathy at their cabin and their place in Florida. I hope fond memories of Don shine brighter in the weeks to come offering comfort to all who grieve and that we will continue to see glimpses of him and his legacy for many many years.

Kathy and family,
It's been many years of making fond memories with Don and you. Angel Cove camping where our kids grew up together, and afternoons at Narrows. The daily pontoon rides especially to the beach at Messenger Lake, digging up mud as a facial mask we were sure would keep our skin ageless. Excursions that didn't matter where to - jump in the truck and we just knew some unexpected memory was going to be made when we were together. The houseboat adventure, trips up north to your cabin finishing off with the fish fry. Marching in the Labor Day parades, then the Local 45 picnics and many dinner dances. How can you forget Don flipping out of the boat at Lake Pioneer, or the work buddies at your cabin supposedly to go ice fishing - turned out to be snow high as their chests and the -40 degrees was recorded as coldest in U.S. for that day? So glad you moved closer and rented in Ellenton when we were there too. We always had a reason to do something or nothing, didn't matter either way. Surely had to hit the beaches, festivals and concerts, and Tigers' ballgames. The two fishing buddies going out in Don's little boat didn't bring bring back many fish, only lots of fishy stories! We could go on and on. Don was a proud Marine who adored his family and was always there whenever someone needed him. And so it goes we'll have the good old days to remember as we miss our best friend dearly.
Much love, Dan and Diane

I only recently really got to know Don but in the very limited amount of time I had the opportunity to spend with him I immediately learned while working with him, my son and Cole on Donny's barn what a genuinely kind, patient, honest and nice person he really was, and I feel blessed to have had the opportunityto spend time with him. Don was truly a wonderful man and I am honored to have had the opportunity to call him my friend.

Kathy and Family,
Chris and I are sending our condolences with Love. We enjoyed our many get togethers, dinners and shared lots of laughs over cocktails! Don taught me everything about cooking in the air fryer which, I will forever be grateful. He also gave me detailed instructions on how to care for his Geraniums. They look amazing. He will be missed terribly. Love, Chris & Paula O’Neill. Ellenton, Florida

Our tribute recreated
Our favorite memory includes sitting on the deck consuming adult beverages, listening to rock and roll, solving the world's problems and just enjoying each other. We also remember fondly making the restaurant circuit in Florida and sipping a few. We will sincerely miss Don especially when something breaks and there is no one here to fix it like he could. Many afternoons and evenings were spent laughing, joking, telling stories about our youth, and dining out. Those were great times. We are grateful for these memories and will recall them along with many more as the years go by. Thanks Don for these precious moments. We will never forget how you enriched our lives.
