Sharon Bailey

Obituary of Sharon Bailey

Sharon Bryant was born on April 1, 1957, in Harts, West Virginia. She was the youngest of fourteen children born from the union of Earsel and Hazel (Adkins) Bryant. She was a graduate of Chapmanville High School.

Sharon married the love of her life: Harry Bailey on October 19, 1981. Together, the happy couple, raised two children. Sharon was employed as a factory line worker at BrassCraft in Brownstown, MI for many years.  And in recent years worked with the state government as a Secretary for the Capitol of West Virginia. Sharon spent the last few years as a homemaker.

Sharon treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren, and in fact the title that she enjoyed the most in this life was that of being “Gandma” to her grandchildren. This nickname was born from the fact that the young children could not pronounce the r and it stuck with her.   One of their favorite pastimes was strawberry picking at Whittaker’s Berry Farm in Ida, and the family always looked forward to the “good” strawberry jelly Sharon whipped up from their berry bounty.

Sharon loved being outdoors and enjoyed the simplicity of our world.  Planting a vegetable garden in the spring would allow her to can from the year’s harvest for the family to enjoy all year round. She also planted beautiful flowers to enhance the beauty of her yard and home. She was known to have quite the green thumb when it came to her vegetation as it was stated she could grow anything even in a pile a rocks.

Sharon loved to hone her skills target shooting at the Dundee Sportsman Club range.   Loved ones often jokingly referred to her as a “gun totting granny”.   She was also the reigning Horseshoes champion of the family, a ringer of sorts.   Unfortunately, many have tried but few could compete against her mad skills.

Sharon took great pride in her outward appearance. She was in fact, a queen of selfies, weekly changing her social media profile picture. She might possibly have been the most elegant tom boy anyone could ever meet.

Sharon Bailey, age 65, of Petersburg, passed away at 4:35pm on Sunday; May 8, 2022, at her home.  Her passing was preceded by her parents and several of her siblings.
