Obituary of Robin Rosemary Thomas
Robin Rosemary Ross was born on July 18, 1946, in a displaced person’s camp in Germany. Her birth mother, Pauline Wegizyn, had given her the name of “Maria”. Robin immigrated to the United States at eighteen months old and she was raised in a loving home by Howard L. Ross and Elaine G. Bauer.
On May 6, 1978, she wed Charles Wayne Thomas. The couple enjoyed thirty years of marriage and were blessed with four children. Robin devoted her life to taking care of her home and family.
A talented artist and crafter, Robin had earned an Associate’s Degree of Arts from Monroe County Community College. Although her specialty was ceramics, she also created stained glass pieces and did bead work. Robin worked alongside her husband, a woodworker. The pair were very successful selling their artwork at craft shows. Naturally, Robin enjoyed watching how-to videos, especially the television program “How It’s Made”.
Robin had a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit her birthplace on a month-long trip across Europe with her mother. She also spent time with her mom at her home in San Francisco, California. Robin took a memorable cruise through the U.S. Virgin Islands with her husband in which a boiler explosion occurred just as they were pulling into port. She talked about the experience for many years afterwards. Robin had a large personality and wasn’t easily forgettable. Although she could be described as strong-willed, opinionated, and overprotective at times, her tough exterior came from a place of love. She cared deeply for her family and adored her grandchildren.
