Elizabeth "Betty" Burger

Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Burger

Elizabeth Marie Maynes was born November 3, 1931, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of five children born from the union of William and Mae (Scoby). Betty, as she would be commonly known as, would be educated through the Monroe school system. Betty would meet the love of her life, Edward J. Burger and be married on November 18, 1950, in Maybee, Michigan. Together this happy couple would be blessed with the birth of four children: Charlotte, Teresa, David, and Thomas.

Above anything, Betty enjoyed being a full-time mother. She treasured the times she could nourish and entertain her children until they were grown. It was at this time Betty would head out into the work force. She gained employment, part time as a Kelly girl and later for many years at Weiss Jewelers as a saleswoman clerk.  She also kept busy volunteering her time in many capacities: at Mercy Hospital and the Lutheran Home as a housekeeper, Raisinville Township as an election clerk and at St. John’s church, assisting with preparing funeral lunches.

As a member of the Frenchtown Seniors, Betty enjoyed going on bus trips, on occasion to the casino, with her good friends, Jinky, Aggie and Shirley until her health deteriorated. It was no secret Betty enjoyed the company of her feline friends, but she specifically favored Siamese Cats.

Elizabeth (Betty) M. Burger, age 90, passed away on March 20, 2022, while under the care of Elara Hospice at Elderly Solutions Assisted Living.  In addition to her passing, she is preceded by her husband of forty-four years: Ed, in 1994; two sisters: Dorothy Barron, Genevieve Kregel and one brother Louis Maynes.
