Obituary of Ruthann Jean Thomas

Ruthann Jean Thomas was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on December 9th, 1936. She was born from the union of the late Micheal and Selma Shambo. Ruthann would receive her education through the Bloom Township school system completing the 11th grade at the Bloom Township High School.

On April 30, 1955, she married the love of her life, Paul Elwood Thomas, in Dahlgren Illinois. God would bless them with sixty-six years of marriage. From their union would come the birth of two children: Paul Jr. and Peggy. Ruthann loved her family very much and she cherished the time that God allowed them to have together.

Ruthann was employed at several different places throughout the years including Kimble Glass, Kempfs Custom Butchering, and Meijer. In addition to being employed at all of those places, Ruthann also made it her life's mission to care for her home and her family.

Traveling was one of Ruthanns' favorite things to do. After her and her husband retired they would travel all over the United States including trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Niagara Falls. She was also well known for being a fabulous cook with her famous banana pudding and potato salad ranking as some of her most requested dishes. Ruthann was also an avid bowler. She would be apart of multiple ladies' bowling teams throughout the years.

Ruthann cherished her relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a proud member of the Church of Christ. Throughout the years she would receive her spiritual nourishment by attending the Flat Rock Church of Christ, the Benton Church of Christ, and most recently the Dunbar Road Church of Christ.

Ruthann Jean Thomas, age 85, of Monroe, passed away at 4:53am on Wednesday; December 29, 2021 while at the Beaumont Hospital of Trenton. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Micheal and Selma Shambo; her son: Paul Thomas Jr.; her daughter: Peggy Elaine Wiley; and her son in law: John Franklin Wiley. Her passing was also preceded by multiple brothers and sisters.

To cherish her memory, Ruthann leaves her husband of 66 years: Paul E. Thomas; her brothers: Bob Shambo and Mike Shambo Jr.; her grandchildren: Kristie (Stephen) Harbaugh, Angela (Raffaele) Thomas, Crystal Weinper, Jeni Thomas, Darci (Rev. B.J.) McDaniel, Devin (Ilicja) Wiley, and Dylan (Ashlee) Wiley; her great grandchildren:  Shyanne, Tyler, Jordan, Colt, Byson, Shasta, Angela, Daniel, Alyssa, Callie, Olivea, and Lyudmila; as well as one great great grandson: Loki. Ruthann also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Friends gathered on Tuesday; January 4, 2022 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185.   Minister Andre King of the Church of Christ officiated.   Private burial took place on Wednesday; January 5, 2022 at United Memorial Gardens in Plymouth.
