Obituary of James LaPrad

James Louis LaPrad was born in Monroe on January 28, 1934. He was the only child born from the union of the late Lenos and Ruth (Kallenberg) LaPrad. James was a 1951 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central.
On April 18, 1953 James married the love of his life, Alice King at St. Patrick Church in Carleton. For forty-eight years he was an excellent provider supporting his family as the Meat Manager for Seaway Food Town, retiring in 2000. James was very family oriented and extremely devoted always making sure to fulfill his family's needs.
He was also a familiar face at the ball diamond. He participated in many leagues playing men's fast pitch softball for Diamond Menswear and Treadmill Tire; and also umpired high school and recreational baseball.
James was fun-loving with a great sense of humor. He and Alice were active grandparents, never missing out on any of their activities. In his free time, James enjoyed hunting, going to the casino and taking part in his grandchildren's activities.
James Louis LaPrad Sr., age 80 of Carleton, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Fountain View of Monroe. His passing was preceded by his parents.
To cherish his memory, James leaves his beloved wife of nearly sixty-one years: Alice; two daughters: Jamie (Jay) Buzan of Casper, Wyoming and Janice (Clark) Cousino of Carleton; a son: James (Sandy) LaPrad Jr of Newport; four grandchildren: Tammy (James) Spaulding, Angela (Chuck) Pope, Ryan (Julie) Cousino and Rebecca (Ryan) O'Hara; three step-grandchildren: Holly (Michael) Deady, Roxanne (Shane) Wilde and Coty (Brandon) McClanahan; nine great grandchildren: Nathan, Jared, Jenna, Mackayla, McKenzie, Mason, Madison, McKinley and Ryleigh; three step-grandchildren: Lucy, Josh and Brady.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070 (formerly Bennett Funeral Services). The Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm led by Deacon Cousino of Divine Grace Parish. James will Lie in State from 10:30am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Divine Grace Parish, St. Patrick Church, 2906 West Labo Road in Carleton. Inurnment services will take place at 2:30pm on Tuesday April 1, 2014 at Roselawn.
