Obituary of Lila Jean Ericson

Lila Jean Spaulding was born in Dundee on November 28, 1931. She was one of six siblings. As a young girl, Lila attended classes in the Dundee school system. Lila met and later married Harry Ericson in Livonia, Michigan.

In her free time, Lila enjoyed feeding and watching the birds outside her patio door. On occasion, she could witness deer and turkeys visiting her property as well. Every year, Lila would plant a vegetable garden consisting of tomatoes, green and jalapeno peppers, and squash to freeze and share her harvest with family and friends.

She treasured spending time with many nieces and nephews when they would come to her home for visits. As an avid Detroit Tiger Baseball fan, she rooted for her beloved number twenty-four, Miguel Cabrera, consistently. Sometimes her emotions got the best of her reaction to the outcome of the game.

Lila was given a toy poodle named, “Sissy”. When Sissy passed, Lila was given another dog, who looked identical to Sissy #1. It was only fitting to name this new four-legged, companion Sissy as well.

Lila Jean Ericson, age 89, passed away on November 24, 2021, at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital. In addition to her passing, she is preceded by both her parents; her husband: Harry; one baby brother: Clare Spaulding; one brother: Donald Spaulding; one sister: Evelyn Romans.

To cherish her memory, she leaves one brother: Burton Spaulding; one sister: Darlene (Steve) Dick; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may gather on Sunday; November 28, 2021, from 1:00pm until the time of The Celebration of Her Life at 2:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156. The service will be led by Minister Bill Romans of the Church of Christ, Indiana.   Procession will follow to Oak Grove Cemetery will immediately follow.
