Obituary of Elizabeth Hogston
Elizabeth Blair was born on November 9, 1931 in Regina, Kentucky. She was one of two children and the only daughter born to Mack and Louisa Blair. Elizabeth graduated from Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Kentucky with the class of 1951. On December 22, 1951 she wed James Hogston in Virginia. The couple enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage and were blessed with five children. Shortly after their nuptials, the Hogston’s relocated to Detroit, Michigan.
A devout Christian, Elizabeth was a longtime member of Bethesda Bible Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She absolutely adored children and operated a daycare out of her home and church for over twenty years. Liz canned the harvest from her husband’s garden every season, ensuring her family had delicious ingredients for homecooked meals. She passed this life skill on to her grandsons Jimmy and Jim.
Elizabeth enjoyed perusing through antique stores and flea markets and attending auctions in search of carnival glass, vintage toys, and Victorian collectables. She never turned down an opportunity to shop or dine out, especially at her favorite restaurant Long-Horn Steakhouse. A very social person, Liz, loved to talk on the phone and every conversation lasted at least an hour. She loved to listen to gospel music and watched “Blue-Bloods” whenever it was on television, even if that meant an hours-long marathon. Elizabeth was smitten with her daughter’s canine companion, a Chihuahua mix named “Lola”, and took great care dog sitting.
