Obituary of Sandra Lynn Windels
Sandra Lynn (Meyer) Windels was born on April 14, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the loving daughter of Andrew and Pearl Irene (Manor) Meyer. Sandra graduated from Flat Rock High School with the Class of 1960. She would further her education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education.
Sandra’s teaching career spanned many years. For three years, prior to leaving to raise her children, she was employed at Simpson Junior High School in Flat Rock. When she returned to the classroom, she taught at the Milan Adult Education Center for four years and then spent a year teaching at Orchard Center High School in Monroe. Sandra spent the remaining twenty-eight years teaching English and Reading to seventh and eighth grade students at Jefferson Middle School in Monroe.
Sandra loved reading historical fiction and would research and write articles on local history. Many of her articles were published locally in the Prime Times publication. Some of the topics she wrote about included: the Winery at Pointe Aux Peaux, Heston’s Pier, and the Stony Point Beach Bath House. She enjoyed tending to her vegetable and butterfly gardens and taking photos of the sunsets over Lake Erie. Her most admired pastime was spending time with her family and watching her grandson, Andrew, play football for Jefferson High School.
