Obituary of Barbara Ann Snell
Barbara Ann Good was born on February 9, 1935 in Dundee, Michigan. She was the youngest of five children born to the union of Daniel and Pauline (Gee) Good. A gifted musician, Barb played the organ at church services for sixty-five years. Extremely shy as a child, playing the piano brought her to come out of her shell.
Barb graduated from Dundee High School with the Class of 1952. As a young woman, she enjoyed roller skating and fatefully met her future husband at the rink. Barb was joined in marriage to Walter Snell at Ray Church in Ray, Michigan on March 14, 1953. They were blessed with four children and enjoyed nearly sixty years of marriage.
The Snell’s vacationed in Northern Michigan every year. They enjoyed tent camping, fishing, and hunting deer. Barb was a great shot with a bow and arrow, rarely missing her mark. She also excelled at horseshoes and honed her skills playing on a league. Barb’s family looked forward to tasting all varieties of “Grandma’s cookies”, but especially her delicious molasses cookies. A talented baker, she also decorated wedding cakes. Barb kept herself busy outside in her yard. She cultivated a garden every season, canning her harvest and making jelly from the grapes that grew on vines near her home. Barb’s property was meticulously maintained and lush with flowers grown from seeds annually. She spent a lot of time at the Dundee Senior Center taking exercise classes and attending luncheons and birthday parties. She also joined in on bus trips, including a memorable excursion to Washington D.C.
Barbara Ann Snell, age 86, of Dundee, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Walter Snell in 2012; daughter Karen Snell in 2021; brothers: Bill Good and Maxwell Good; and sister: Meda Ashley.
Left to cherish her memory are her son: Ron (Kelle) Snell; daughters: Diana Good and Nancy (Paul) Vandevelde; brother: Dick Good; grandchildren: Melissa Taylor, Jessica Snell, Holly (Eric) Merzwiak, Katie (Garrett) Stevens, Daniel Snell (Treanna Gormley), Anthony (Ashley) McClain, Douglas McClain (Crystal Holek), and Christina (Joe) Thomas; sixteen great grandchildren; many close friends, some of whom she’s had since childhood; and feline companion: “Toby”, adopted by Barb after he was found as a kitten.
Friends may gather on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee, 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131, (734)529-3156. Barbara will lie in state from 10:00am until a Worship Service celebrating her life at 11:00am on Monday, November 15, 2021 at Dundee United Methodist Church, 645 Franklin Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 followed by a procession to Maple Grove Cemetery, Dundee.
