Evelyn Sexton

Obituary of Evelyn Jean Sexton

Evelyn Jean Campbell was born on August 30, 1935 in Washington Court House, Ohio. She was one of two children and the only daughter born to Seymour and Minnie (Morgan) Campbell. Evelyn graduated from Washington High School in Washington Court House with the class of 1953. On December 29, 1956 she wed James Sexton at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in London, Ohio. The couple enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage and were blessed with two children of their own.

Evelyn was employed as the Head of Administration at an Equestrian Association for five years beginning at the age of nineteen. Her love of horses was born from watching her jockey father tend to the horses he raced. As much as Evelyn loved her job, she ultimately chose to make taking care of her children and grandchildren her life’s work. Evelyn was very involved in her grandchildren’s sports activities. She came to be known as the “Grandma of Boys Basketball”. Evelyn also introduced the kids to her favorite sport: bowling. They spent many afternoons together knocking down the pins at Nortel Lanes in Monroe, Michigan. She served on the State Board of Directors for the Junior Bowling Association and was inducted as a member of the Monroe Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Evelyn was a selfless woman who would never hesitate to help anyone in need.

Evelyn Jean Sexton, age 86, of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Evelyn’s passing was preceded by her parents; husband: James Sexton in 2015; brother: Everette Campbell; and many aunts and uncles.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her daughter: Lisa Bailey of Monroe, Michigan; son: Charles (Kathy) Sexton of La Salle, Michigan; and grandchildren: Megan Bailey (Spencer Stevens), Jarid Bailey, Mitchell Sexton, and Mallory Sexton.
