Beverly Light

Obituary of Beverly Ann Light

Beverly Ann Weiss was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 13, 1937.   She was the daughter of Stanley and Harriet “Hattie” (Dobke) Weiss.   Beverly graduated from St. David High School in Detroit with the class of 1955.

On June 23, 1962, Beverly married the love of her life, Richard C. Light, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan.   The happy couple would be blessed with the birth of five children, and she would care for their needs as a homemaker.   The family made their home in Rockwood, Michigan until 1970, when they moved to Carleton.

Growing up on a farm she learned the arts of canning, cooking, and baking, her cherry tarts were epic, and was gifted at sewing providing tailoring services to anyone in need of assistance.

Beverly was an active member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Annunciation in Rockwood, Michigan.  Very devout in her faith, Bev, often could be heard reciting the Rosary throughout the day.  She enjoyed retreats and was a consistent volunteer at her parish serving in the food pantry and with bake sales.   For many years, she liked crafts although for the past several years she was quite content with computer games.

Beverly and Richard enjoyed travel, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe.   They had also been on excursions with the Rockwood Seniors to Niagara on the Lake and Mackinaw.   Bev was the consummate partner serving as primary caregiver to Richard for the final ten years of his life as his health declined.

Beverly Light, age 84, passed away on Friday; October 1, 2021.   Her passing was preceded by her parents; her husband of fifty-seven years:  Richard; and a sister and brother-in-law: Carol and Richard Wanicke.

To cherish her memory, she leaves five children: Dennis Allen (Katherine) of Monroe, Brian Richard (Susan) of Flat Rock, Eric Michael (Collette) of Warren, Maureen Therese (Lee) DeCarlo of Monroe, and Sharon Marie Light of Livonia; ten grandchildren: Stephen, Nicole, Rachel, Sarah, Shannon, Vincent, Phillip, Natalie, Cortney, and Allison; and one brother: Richard (Carol) Weiss of Grosse Pointe Woods.
