Obituary of John Edward Legg
John Edward Legg Jr. was born in Batavia, New York on October 10, 1948. He was one of five children born to the union of John Edward and Ruth (Fuller) Legg Sr. John graduated from Pavilion High School in Pavilion, New York with the class of 1966.
On December 18, 1971 he wed the former Margaret Pritchard at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Alexandria Bay, New York. The couple would enjoy fifty years of marriage and were blessed with three children.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He later enlisted in the United States Navy and continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1997. John’s career in the military afforded him and the family to travel throughout the country. They lived in Chicago, Illinois, Denver, Colorado, and San Francisco, California before settling in Monroe, Michigan after he was discharged from active duty.
John was never afraid to teach himself a new skill. He learned how to build computers and fix his grandchildren’s vehicles. He was very interested in genealogy and had traced his own family roots back more than four hundred years. John was known to be a hard worker and a loyal family man. He was always encouraging and supportive to his children.
John Edward Legg, age 72, of Newport, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday; September 27, 2021. His passing was preceded by his parents; two sisters: Barbara Galton and Sandy Legg; two brothers-in-law: Eric Galton and Terry Hall; and an uncle: Stanley Fuller.
To cherish his memory he leaves a beloved wife of nearly fifty years: Margaret Legg; two sons: Jeffrey Legg and Matthew (Eva) Legg Sr.; one daughter: Christina Torres; four grandchildren: Matthew Legg Jr., Gabriel Legg, Mario Torres Jr., and Kamryn Legg; one sister: Kathy Hall; one brother: Geoffrey (Donna) Legg; and canine companion: a Chihuahua Pomeranian mix, “Princess”.
