Obituary of Robert Alan Sharkus
Robert Alan Sharkus was born on April 4, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of seven children born from the union of Edward Sharkus and Eleonore (Koyen) Sharkus. Following his graduation from high school, Rob would achieve an Associate of Science Degree.
Rob would meet and fall in love with the former Laurie Mullin. The couple was wed on July 27, 1984, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newport. They would be blessed with two sons of their own.
Always supportive and encouraging of his wife; Rob built a sculpting studio and art displays for her. Whenever Laurie had an art show, he was there every day to support her. Rob was a devoted family man, he enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren and loved them dearly.
The family made their home in Estral Beach. Rob loved his community and was a proud member of the Estral Beach Village Council, often riding his unicycle to meetings. He made lifelong friends within his community, telling everyone willing to listen that Estral Beach was the best place on earth.
He enjoyed many different activities, from rustic camping in the Upper Peninsula to occasional golf (which he always thought was a swinging game). He loved playing drums, starting in middle school and continuing through his entire life. He was the drummer for several local bands including Fallout, Pop Dema, Surge, Bluewater Fox, Dutch and the Lost Souls, and Sharkus (getting some radio time with this band)!
Robert was born a natural handyman. In fact, he could fix anything: from air conditioning to car engines, he even restored a 1968 BSA Lightning motorcycle that still runs today. He was very talented in working with electrical, carpentry, and plumbing projects as well.
Rob worked as a maintenance technician. He worked for many years at the Henry Ford Estate and University of Michigan- Dearborn, retiring in 2019. His coworkers remembered him for his wonderful sense of humor. He often saved costs by innovating and completing highly complex tasks himself.
