Obituary of Maurice "Chick" Brown
Maurice Brown was born on June 6, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois. He was one of twelve children born from the union of Jonathan and Mary Louise (Allen) Brown.
In 1984, Maurice moved from Monroe, Michigan to Fort Wayne, Indiana where he accepted a position at Downtown City and County building working in environmental services for ten years. In 1996, he became a Certified Nurse Assistant. Upon completion he accepted a position at Byron Healthcare Center, where he earned employee of the month for three consecutive months. He was also awarded employee of the year for two years in a row. Maurice enjoyed staying active throughout his life, from playing center field in baseball to being accomplished in boxing. The grass never grew under, Maurice’s feet. This was never more evident than when dancing. Whenever he would feel the music, the dancing shoes went on, and Maurice was a sight to be seen.
Above anything, Maurice loved his family, he would be blessed with three children, and especially treasured the time he spent with them. He was a kind and gentle soul with a heart for service. To know Maurice, was to love Maurice. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always in search of good, fun time, he looked to make others laugh. Maurice was wise beyond his years. His intelligence was earned due to being a lifelong learner. Maurice valued the power of a good read. He could often be found with a good book in hand or catching up on the world’s current events.
Born into a family with a strong sense of faith, Maurice would feed his spiritual appetite by attending Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana as well as Christian Center in Columbus, Ohio. At each of these churches, Maurice sought to be an integral part of the operation providing countless volunteer hours and even served as a Deacon. Maurice’s love for community and helping others led him to becoming a Mason through the Lodge in Franklin, Ohio.
