Roma Gutierrez

Obituary of Roma L Gutierrez

Roma (Meade) Gutierrez left this world, surrounded by her loving family, on May 13, 2021. Roma was the adoring wife of Pilar "Jocko" Gutierrez. They were married in Sarasota, Florida on March 6, 1972. She was the doting mother of five children: Rhonda Gutierrez (Nick Milanovich), Kristi Brown (Elmer), Angela Gutierrez (Ron Winiarski), Ryan Gutierrez (Summer), Brian Gutierrez (Kathleen). She adored her fifteen beautiful grandchildren, and nothing made her happier than spending time with them. Her fifteen grandchildren include: Kiana, Niko, Delayna, Joelena, Leanna, Kristina, Alexandria, Raven, Justin, Parker, Reagan, Reign, Madison, Claire, and Joseph. Roma was a dedicated sister to her three siblings: Earmel Glen Meade, William Meade Jr. (Annette), and Laura Long (Doug). She was the proud aunt to many nieces and nephews and enjoyed catching up with her schoolmates, friends, cousins, and other relatives on Facebook. Roma always had a great time with her best friend, Roxanne "Rocky" Welyhorskyj. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ruth Baisden Meade Conway & William Meade Sr., baby sister: Jarie Meade, granddaughters: Cheyenne Salinaz & Sadie Gutierrez and sister-in-law: Beverly Meade.

Roma was raised in Dingess, West Virginia. She was always proud to exclaim that she was a hillbilly. She was truly a coalminer's daughter. She loved southern cooking and country music. She raised her five children and many more foster kids in Detroit, Michigan. She volunteered for endless hours at the Boys & Girls Club in Southwest Detroit, where she quickly became a member of the club family. She always looked forward to spending time at the Gutierrez cabin in Prescott, Michigan where she enjoyed birdwatching. She was often a big winner at the casinos she visited. The slot machines were her favorite.

Roma spent many years working as a home health care aide for Caring Alternatives in Monroe. She took great care of her patients and lovingly cared for them and their homes. Roma will be fondly remembered for her beauty, her loving disposition, her home decorating skills, her beautiful yard and flowers, her delicious meals, and lovely cakes. No party or holiday will ever be the same without her. She was truly one-of-a-kind, with a heart of gold and no day will ever pass when she isn't thought of and missed tremendously. A faithful Christian, we know she is shining down from heaven above, our guardian angel.
