Harold Jones

Obituary of Harold Jones

Harold Jones was born on January 9, 1950 in Coffeeville, Mississippi.   He was the son of Aaron Martin and Hattie (Freelon) Hayes.   Shortly after graduating from Central High School in Coffeeville, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following his discharge from the military he would make his home in Monroe, Michigan and was employed by Ford Motor Company for 10 years.  Harold took employment as a pipefitter and was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 671 in Monroe, Michigan.   For many years, he also served as President of the Monroe Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).

Harold was a devout Christian who attended services at the Christian Life Center Church in Monroe.   He spent many hours sitting in the local parks, reminiscing about his life growing up and reflecting on his faith.   Harold enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.   He could entertain for hours, keeping all those listening and laughing, by sharing his jokes and funny stories.   Harold prided himself with keeping up with politics and enjoyed watching a variety of sports, Christian programming, and Western movies – or “shoot-em ups” as he lovingly referred to them.

Harold Jones, age 71, of Monroe, Michigan passed away peacefully on Thursday; May 13, 2021. His passing was preceded by his parents; a brother: Spencer Jones; and three sisters: Mary Louise Jones, Joyce Ann Mister, and Yvonne Hayes.
