Jo Ann Checker

Obituary of Jo Ann Checker

JoAnn Agler was born in Monroe, Michigan on April 12, 1949.   She was one of five children born from the union of the late Donald and Harriet (Greening) Agler.   She was a 1966 graduate of Monroe High School.   Later, she would further her education by obtaining her Licensed Practical Nursing certificate.

JoAnn married Larry Uhlik and prior to his passing the couple would have four children.   First and foremost, JoAnn was committed to spending time with her family.   For fifteen years she was also employed at the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

JoAnn had a passion for music.   This deep love provided her the courage not be shy and to get on stage to sing karaoke.  Her all-time favorite to perform was, “Bobby McGee”.  During one of these karaoke sessions is where she met the love of her life, Charles Checker.  Sixty days later, the couple blended families and joined hands in marriage.  Throughout their twenty-seven years of marriage, they spent many days on the water, boating with friends.

JoAnn was loving and giving, “An Earth Angel”.   She was truly honored to be a grandmother and was quite proud to be called “Granny”.  She made it a priority to be active in their lives especially looking forward to the warm weather when she could have everyone over to hang out by the pool.

Even when faced with declining health issues, JoAnn, never allowed it to hold her back.   Her strength was remarkable and she never let anything break her Spirit.

JoAnn Checker, age 71, passed away at 1:03am on Monday, March 15, 2021 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.   In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a grandmother: Amanda Lockwood; two sisters:  Sheri Stockard and Cathy Terry; and a brother:  Wallace Agler.

To cherish her memory, JoAnn, leaves her husband: Charles; seven children:  MaryJo Uhlik, Lawrence Uhlik, Sheila (Edward) Lazette, John (Cheryl) Uhlik, Christopher Agler, Sonja (Kelly) Checker, and Kim (Jack) Lindquist; a sister:  Donna (Paul) Wing; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
