Obituary of Jerome Andrew Mannlein

Jerome Andrew Mannlein was born in Petersburg, Nebraska on April 5, 1930.   He was one of five children born from the union of George and Leona (Friese) Mannlein.   Jerome attended Milan High School and graduated with the Class of 1948.  After high school, he joined the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean War.   It was here that he learned to speak German.

Returning to Dundee, Jerome made many friends within the community.   He was a delivery carrier for the United States Postal Service for twenty-nine years.   Many customers were saddened to lose their favorite carrier when Jerome decided to retire.   One of his favorite pastimes was visiting the Wilson and Meyer Hardware store in Dundee, where he and the owner, Mr. Meyer, held countless conversations in German.
