Kenneth Henley

Obituary of Kenneth Randy Henley

Kenneth Randy Henley was born on February 12, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was one of four sons born from the union of Bethel William and Elsie Ella (Hilwig) Henley.   Born and raised in Detroit, Ken, was quite proud of his Motor City roots, and also felt quite connected to Baxter, Tennessee, where he spent considerable time as a young man.

After graduating high school, Ken completed two and a half years of college working towards his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology.   He in high school, he would meet and later marry the former Debra Ann Watson and the duo would be blessed with two children.  The family initially made their home in Detroit before settling in Centerline.

Not afraid of hard work, Ken wore many hats during his employment years.   He was hired for various positions from truck driver to welder, from roofer to building repairman, and even owned his own businesses in general construction and telecommunications.  Ken was an amazing problem solver, always depending on his “three scenarios” to find the right paths.

Above anything, Ken loved his family and friends, as well as his family pets.   Described by others as a warm, caring, considerate, affectionate, generous, and devoted man, he especially cherished the times he doted on his children and later his grandchildren.  Ken was quite the storyteller, who also possessed a goofy and wicked sense of humor that kept all around him on their toes.  This combination usually resulted in endless laughing and a great time had by all.  A bit of a ham, Ken will be remembered in a massive photo album filled will silly faces and warm, treasured smiles.

Ken was a man of many talents and appreciated the simple things in life.   He sported a green thumb while tending to his garden that produced amazing tomatoes and gigantic sunflowers, among other treats.   On occasion, he would drop a line in his favorite fishing hole.   He also appreciated gazing into the night sky at the stars and finding peace staring into a blazing fire, while camping with loved ones.   Ken captured many of his adventures with still shots and video, one of his pastimes, a gift to be treasured for many years.

Ken enjoyed riding his bike and walking through his neighborhood, sometimes listening to his favorite tunes.   He also enjoyed cooking and eating his delightful creations.   Ken was an avid fan of internet surfing and keeping up with current events, visiting museums, attending concerts, and taking in a new release at the movies or a live theatre production.

Ken met Tanya D. Smith online, in the Spring of 1999, before it was “fashionable.”   The couple would share over twenty-one glorious years together.   They eventually met in person for the first time on December 17, 1999 (which they celebrated as their anniversary), but by April of 2000, Ken had moved to Toledo to be with Tanya permanently.

Kenneth Randy Henley, age 64, of Holland passed away on, July 6, 2020 at the Cleveland Clinic.   His passing was preceded by his mother:  Elsie Ella Simons.

Smith of Holland; former spouse: Debra Ann Henley; two children: Crystal Diamond (Emir) Sadic and Teddy Thomas (Suzanne) Henley; three brothers: Glen, Ronny and Benny; and six grandchildren: Isaac, Alen, Landon, Nash, Trina and Tayla.
