Al Marks

Obituary of Al Marks

Albert Alexander Marks was born in Flat Rock, Michigan on July 24, 1951.   He was the middle of three sons born from the union of the late Alexander Edward and Betty Marie (Little) Marks.   The family moved to Monroe in 1960 where Al would attend Monroe Public Schools eventually obtaining his GED.

Al married the love of his life, Sheila Carol Petit, on January 2, 1974.   The couple would be blessed with the birth of a son: Alex.

Al was born with a willingness to go above and beyond.   This desire carried over from his personal life into the business world.  He supported his family with employment at Fermi and then for Pioneer Signs.   A true artist, and an expert at his craft, Al, set out on his own with Sheila by his side.   In 1988, Al Marks Signs was born.

Al was personable, and generous with a great sense of humor.   He built relationships with his devoted customers, who returned time and time again for decades.   His extra-curricular activities also led to solidifying a lifetime of friendships.   For many years he participated in bowling leagues at Nortel Lanes and had enjoyed playing weekly in a golf league at Green Meadows.   Little did he know that playing adult softball would lead to being part of the Kegger Brotherhood.   These men were a family devoted to each other.   Al fondly recalled many trips to the Sieb Family Northern Michigan cabin.

An avid Detroit Red Wings and Tigers fan, Al, took many road trips with Alex to watch Wings games.

Al, age 69, of Monroe passed away at home on Sunday, December 20, 2020.   In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a brother-in-law:  Dennis Petit.

To cherish his memory he leaves a beloved wife:  Sheila of Monroe; a son:  Alex (Rachel) Marks of McCordsville, Indiana; a brother:  Ken (Patty) Marks of Sevierville, Tennessee; five sisters-in-law:  Deborah Burns of Monroe, Linda (Lester) Sutherland of Millersburg, Michigan, Sue (Bill) Norman of Santa Clara, California, Lisa (Tom) Johnson of Flint, and Beverly Ammons of Morrisville, North Carolina; four brothers-in-law:  Mike (Karen) Petit of Grand Blanc, Mark (Theresa) Petit of Linden, Larry (Cheri) Petit of Durand, and Brian (Sharon) Petit of Swartz Creek; two grandchildren:  Willow and Cameron Marks.
