Obituary of Robert Polk
Robert L. Polk was born on February 12, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He was one of five children born from the union of Llewellyn and Margaret (Bresenski) Polk. In 1963, Robert married the love of his life, the former Lorene Johnson and the couple would be blessed with three children.
Robert wore many hats throughout his life. For many years he owned and operated his own business, Bob Polk Builders. He proudly assumed a position as Past President of the Home Builder’s Association. His favorite “job” of all, however, was teaching the kids at Monroe High School to design and build homes. Robert was one of the founding members of the Triumph Academy, a free public charter school located in Frenchtown Township. At the time of his passing, Robert, sat on the Triumph School Board and formerly held seats on the Monroe Drain Commission as well as the Frenchtown Zoning Board of Appeals. Robert also had a great deal of interest in helping with Habitat for Humanity assisting on many different home builds for the charitable organization.
When Robert wasn’t volunteering his time to serve others, he enjoyed keeping up on current events by watching the Fox News Channel or catching a show or two of Judge Jeanine.
Robert L. Polk, age 78 passed away at 12:22pm on Wednesday; November 18, 2020 at his home. His passing was preceded by his parents and his beloved wife of twenty-four years: Lorene (Johnson) Polk.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his children: Karen (Eric) Sell, Kristine Heffron, and Robert J. Polk; three sisters: Marianne Gentile, Rita Sanders, and Kathleen Stutsman; one brother: Edward Polk; four grandchildren: Brandon Ridner, Kira (Ridner) Jones, Alex Polk, and Jake Heffron; and three great grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 1:00pm until 6:00pm on Saturday; July 24, 2021 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 6:00pm with Vicar Janice Locke of St. John Lutheran Church in Dundee officiating.
