I met Rusty years ago, back when his girls and I were in school together. I spent many, many times with the family. Rusty was always a loving father to all that were guests to family’s home, always making you feel welcome. He was always very dedicated to his family, especially the girls. Although I met Heather in elementary school, I met Rusty and the rest of the family when I was in 7th grade. I will never forget what a wonderful man he was and how very much he cherished his family. I am so very sorry for the whole family’s loss, as I cannot even imagine how much he will be truly missed by them. He touched the life of every person he met in such a positive way and he will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have met him. Hugs and prayers to all of his family.

Our hearts are heavy with Rusty’s passing; but, we will always remember his laughter (and joking). At work Rusty was always helpful to his co-workers and treated all consumers with dignity and respect. He was a devoted citizen of his community as well; but more than anything, his purpose and joy was his love of family. You will be missed friend.
Love Jan & Gayle

My heart is broken and I am so sad for Rusty's family. He was such a joy to be around and he always made you feel welcomed. I can't imagine Cathy without Rusty. When ever you saw one, the other was not far away. Their love for each other was so evident and strong. A love for each other that was made in heaven, where I am positive Rusty is now. RIP, Rusty, you will truly be missed. Kathy Mitteff

To the entire family of Rusty Shorter: I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Rusty when I was searching for a Santa Claus for Custer Elementary School. Not only was he the BEST Santa I could have gotten, he had his beautiful elf Cathy by his side. Since then, although rarely seeing him in person, he made a lasting impression by always acknowledging our connection upon our run-ins, but especially our friendship on Facebook. We found that we had extremely similar views on everything...especially politics...and would often “love” or comment on each other’s posts. After all these years, I truly did feel as if Rusty was my Superman too! What a remarkable man; one that other men should aspire to be, one that every father, grandfather, and great grandfather should exemplify, and one that will surely be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Ugh - truly saddened by the news of his passing. With deepest condolences

To the family of Rusty Shorter my deepest prayers and sympathy. I worked with Rusty for many years at Mental Health of Monroe he was a mentor, friend, and always had a positive attitude and a smile. He was devoted to his wife Cathy (my thoughts are with you so very much) and his girls, and extended family. I have so many memories to hold deep within my heart of my friendship with Rusty in so many ways. I know he had been struggling with so many health issues over the years and fought hard being the Superman he was. His character in general will remain an example to those he knew, and those he served within the community of Monroe. I will miss his positive postings that he shared with those who knew him. Rest in Peace my friend I know you are a heavenly angel now watching over us.
