Obituary of James Carrol Norman
James (Jim) Carrol Norman was born on December 8, 1934 in Carleton, Michigan. He is the youngest of three sons born from the marriage of the late Roy and Carrie (Blain) Norman. Jim was the class president and graduated from Airport High School in 1953. He received his spiritual nourishment from Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized on Christmas day 2011. He had every detail meticulously planned out and surprised everyone.
Jim enlisted in the United States Army in 1953 and protected our country during the Korean War. He served our country for two years until he was honorably discharged in 1955.
Jim would marry the love of his life Sandra “Sandy” Stoner on December 12, 1964 at Carleton United Methodist Church. From this union came the birth of three beautiful children. Jim and Sandy had a wonderful marriage together. He was a provider and a loving companion. They always enjoyed their time spent together. In their younger years, he would take her out dancing to the VFW every month to show off his great moves.
Jim cared deeply for his family and would do anything to ensure they were well taken care of. He worked in quality control for Ford Motor Company and would often continue working in the evening hours on his home and other projects around the house. Jim always made time for his family. He always welcomed everyone into his home including his children’s friends earning himself the nickname “Pappy.”
Jim and Sandy enjoyed their travels visiting many destinations. For the past fifteen years, would spend the winter months in Schalamar Creek, Lakeland, Florida. He also enjoyed taking family hunting trips to Iron Mountain.
James Carrol Norman, age 82 of Carleton passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. In addition to his parents, his passing is preceded in death by one brother: Jack Norman.
To cherish his memory, Jim leaves his beloved wife of fifty-two years: Sandy Norman of Carleton; his children: Jimmy (Dawn) Norman, Carrie (Roy) Southerland and Kathy (Scott Mecham) Norman; one brother: Tom (Joyce) Norman; sister in-law Nancy Norman; seven grandchildren: Olivia, Gillian, Nicole, Jordan, Jackson, Michael and Brady; and many extended family members and friends.
Friends may gather on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 11:00am until A Memorial Service at 12:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185 with Pastor Roy Southerland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church to officiate.
