Obituary of Marjorie Elsie Marshall
Marjorie Elsie Smith was born April 29, 1925 in London England. She was one of two children born from the union of the late William and Elsie Smith. Marjorie worked as a London Telephone Exchange Operator for many years.
Marjorie loved growing up in London. It was there that she met John “Jack” Charles Marshall through a close friend. They fell in love and were married in 1955. After the wedding, they moved to Yorkshire where Jack worked and started a family of their own. They were blessed with two children whom she cherished and made sure they were well cared for.
Shopping was one of Marjorie’s favorite things to do, in particular window-shopping. She would often hop on the bus with her children to see what kind of clothes and shoes she could find. As a family, they camped all over Europe, including Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and France. She had a passion for traveling and was able to visit places all over the world throughout her life.
Marjorie and her family moved to America in 1967 and found a nice home in Carleton, Michigan with lots of open space. It was a wonderful place to raise her family and she would continue to live in that very house to this day. She learned to drive a car on the country roads and enjoyed bowling with friends on several leagues. She always kept up on her sports. Wimbledon Tennis was her favorite. She also enjoyed keeping up on the Tigers. When her husband retired, they got to see many other places including Hawaii, Jamaica, Greece, Turkey and also became snowbirds; flying south to visit Florida every winter.
She was a family oriented woman who enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as often as she could. Together they all loved each other’s company. At barbeques, they occasionally enjoyed a spirited game of croquet. Though leaving her family and friends behind in England was hard, she never lost touch with anyone and would continue to visit until her last time at age 84.
Marjorie Elsie Marshall passed away on November 6, 2017 at Fountainview of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother Vernon Smith.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband of 62 years: John Charles Marshall; her children: Elizabeth (Gary) Kozlowski and John (Phyllis) Marshall; her grandchildren: Erika (Chris) Leeper, Heidi Kozlowski, Hayleigh Marshall, Ian Marshall and Marissa Marjorie Marshall and her great grandchildren: Caleb and Collin Leeper.
