Obituary of Lyne Ortolan
Lyne Demers was born on May 18, 1960 in Magog, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Steve Demers and Madeline Touchette. She moved to Monroe from Magog when she was nine years old.
Lyne married Dean Ortolan on April 19, 1980 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport. The couple shared in the birth of two daughters: Casey and Heidi. For ten years, Lyne worked in sales at the Grainery, selling home décor and antique items.
Lyne loved being in nature. She was a talented gardener and each year raised beautiful perennials. She also enjoyed long walks, especially along the beach; riding in convertibles or on the back of a Harley. Lyne enjoyed traveling as well, often returning to Quebec to visit family. Fort Meyers, Florida; the Caribbean, and South Haven, Michigan were also favorite destinations.
More than anything, Lyne loved her family, and was affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren. She was the “hostess with the mostest”, a neat freak, striving to keep her home spic and span and organized. Lyne often showed guests her flower gardens and prepared wonderful home-cooked meals. Her constant companion was her beloved Pug: Harley. In her free time, she liked to crochet and had been an avid supporter of Jefferson Sports Boosters Club while her children attended.
Lyne Ortolan, age 57, of Newport passed away at Beaumont Hospital in Dearborn with her family around her. Her passing was preceded by her mother: Madeline; her stepmother: Carmen; and a brother: Marco.
To cherish her memory she leaves her beloved husband of thirty-seven years: Dean; two daughters: Casey (Michael) Barbour and Heidi (Scott) Gascon, father: Steve Demers Sr. of Newport; four brothers: Daniel Demers, Mario Demers, Steve (Katie) Demers Jr., and Shawn (Stacy) Demers, four grandchildren: Blake, Evan, Sloane, and Beckett, her beloved pug: Harley; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and many extended family and friends.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm-8:00pm on Monday September 11, 2017 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.
