I had the sudden urge to look Frank up today and sadly found out the sad news of his passing. I took improv classes with Frank at Improv Olympic in Chicago and briefly worked with him at a restaurant. I am so sad and my heart goes out to his family. May he rest in peace. Such sad news.

I knew Frank through Chris and Jo Rodgers. I had the opportunity to vacation with Frank and his family at a beach house in Destin. We had entirely too much fun. I only met him a few times, but he made such an impression on me that I will remember him for the rest of my life. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was truly an amazing guy and will be greatly missed!

FRANK ZIEGER could light up a room like no one I have EVER met and had more charisma than anyone I've ever known. I first met Frank in 2001 when he auditioned for a short film I was producing about an underground mongoloid creature and a mysterious tall man that fell in love with his mother. Frank blew everyone away in that audition but Frank didn’t get the role. Truth, he was too good. We needed the introvert freak of nature type. But he left such an impression on me personally that I sought him out a year later when I was directing my own short film and begged him to play a charismatic cannibal in it. That first impression Frank left on me eventually led to us doing numerous films and videos together over the years, more than I can count and our demented sense of humor made us fast friends and collaborators.
Frank was the first actor to really believe in me as a director and he was the first actor I ever channeled myself through. He made me confident as a filmmaker because when it came to performing Frank was magic. Frank was such a talented artist, actor, songwriter and easily the best improviser I've ever seen. I watched him create numerous characters over the years. In our short films and videos I’ve seen him play a cannibal, a 100 year old Rock N Roll vampire, a ghost cowboy, a skinhead, a hilarious everyman and of course Travis in our feature film Devil in My Ride. Just to name a few! Frank could've been anything he wanted. He could mingle with bankers or play poker with construction workers. He had a rare gift and I was in awe of him, even jealous of his ability to capture the attention of everyone around him anywhere, at anytime.
It feels surreal to put down these words and I know we are all in pain. So let's reflect on this, when you were with Frank you laughed harder than you ever had in your life, you no doubt debated over everything as he and I often did (I still don’t think there’s any good Chinese food in Texas) and then you laughed some more. Frank and I never had a dull moment. Ever. I watched him contemplate out-running the FBI in Black Mama when we were in New Mexico. I screamed at him while strangers nervously watched him climb the cliffs of the Grand Canyon while wearing untied converse. I made him carry a devil bride covered in vomit and bondage gear down Fremont Street in Las Vegas. On more than one occasion Frank has raided my mother’s fridge wearing nothing but a towel and flip-flips. I was in awe when he got an entire room full of people to sing Total Eclipse of the Heart with him at a film fundraiser. And I watched him eat more beef jerky and sunflower seeds than any man has ever eaten on our road trip from Chicago to Vegas and back. It became a line item in the budget of our film. Frank was rowdy, he was bold, he was infectious, he was my dear friend and now he is gone.
Frank battled demons on screen and in real life. Over the past two years things have been different. I’d been living in California for four years now. Frank was in Michigan and then for a little while I wasn’t sure where he was. Frank and Jen had been there for me in the past when I was hurting. Now apparently Frank was hurting. I reached out to Frank but the return calls were fewer and fewer and then none. I wish I had driven across the country and knocked on doors or done whatever possible to find my friend. I wish he had reached out to me. Doz, Joey and I fully expected Frank to show up in LA one day with a backpack, chewing seeds and beef jerky, needing to grab some couch until he figured out his next move. We talked about it many times. This never happened. I write this because I need it to be known, if you were ever my friend and you are hurting, please reach out. I wish now more than ever that Frank would have reached out but he didn’t.
I’m going to keep the Frank that inspired me and made me laugh and challenged me to be a better artist close to my heart for all my years. This is the Frank I hope we all remember. My heavy heart goes out to Frank’s children, family and friends. I will miss you dearly. I hope you are finally at peace. Love you forever brother.

Frank, Vickie & Family,
At this time our words can not say enough. So,we turn to unto Him who created us all...
"Word of God Speak."
1 Peter 1:3-5 (KJV) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
