Obituary of Donald Lassey

DONALD J. LASSEY AUGUST 15, 1950 - June 11, 2011 Donald Jacob Lassey, 60 of Monroe died Saturday at Mercy Memorial Hospital. He had been a resident at Magnum of Monroe for 5 months. He put up a good fight and now he is happy and free of all the restraints life had given him. He's with his Lord and Savior and his heart's desire to be with his Mom and Dad. Born on August 15, 1950, in Toledo Ohio, Don was the son of Glenn and Evelyn (Strauss) Lassey. He attended special education classes at Ida and Dundee Schools. He was employed at the Monroe Workshop. Donald was longtime member of East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church. He resided in a group home provided by Macomb Residential. He participated in many Special Olympic events. Don enjoyed bowling, going to garage sales and the many activities provided by the loving staff there. He also loved helping on the family farm, riding tractors, attending Monroe Fair, working in the yard at home, and being at the family gatherings. Don is survived by his brother: David (Francine) Lassey and sister: Jean (Russell) Joly, nieces and nephews Melissa Joly, Kimberly (Joseph) Hall, Brenda (Dean) Bressler, Brian (Carrie) Lassey, Timothy Lassey, and ten great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, and another great infant. The family would like to thank the staff at Magnum and Mercy Memorial for their care and support, MCA personnel for their gentle transport many times and the entire team at Macomb Residential/Monroe Mental Health. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials may be made to Donald Lassey Outing Memorial Fund, Macomb Residential. Friends may gather Wednesday; June 15, 2011, from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 where a Celebration of His Life will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 16, 2011. The Rev. Bruce Lucas pastor of East Ida Emmanuel Lutheran Church will officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
