Obituary of Carol Deaton

Carol Elizabeth Tolbert was born on July 31, 1942 in Monroe. She was born from the union of the late Alonzo Tolbert and the late Margaret (Rose) McBee. Carol attended Monroe Schools until marrying her only love, Lawrence Deaton on June 12, 1959 in Wise, Virginia. In addition to treating her husband as "King", and taking care of her granddaughter, she was employed at Kroger as an Inventory Clerk for thirty-four years, retiring in 2003. Carol was the "rock" of her family. She relied on the Lord whole heartedly and was supplied with all her needs her entire life. Receiving the spiritual gift of servanthood, humbly Carol often gave of herself for others, nonetheless collecting trinkets and keepsakes along the way to remember those who touched her. She had a strong desire to serve at church and to support overseas missionaries. Carol and her husband enjoyed camping, traveling to Tennessee and taking cruise vacations. She never missed the monthly Kroger Retiree's Luncheon. As a talented cook, Carol will be forever remembered for her famous lasagna and coconut cream pie. Most of all, Carol cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her quiet time, she could be found Facebooking her friends and family, reading a novel or doing word searches.
