Shortly after sunset on Friday, July 17, 2015, Ronald James Hoffman, age 63, passed from this life into the arms of the Lord. He was at home, surrounded by his loving family. For the past year he had bravely battled cancer.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185. A Scripture Service will follow at 7:00pm led by Minister Ben Maynard. Cremation will follow through Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 511 South Monroe Street with Father James Smalarz, pastor of the church officiating. The family will receive friends after 10:00am at the church on August 4th.
Ronald was born March 6, 1952 in Monroe to James E. and Hazel Ruth (Grummel) Hoffman. He attended St. Charles Elementary School, was a 1970 graduate of Airport High School, and attended Monroe County Community College. He married Roxann Revard on March 23, 1974. Theirs was a union lasting 41 years until his death (and beyond). He was blessed with a daughter: Rhonda (Rob) Miller; son: Nicholas (Lauren) Hoffman; grandsons: Alex and Zach Miller; and a granddaughter: Riley Miller. Grandson Logan James Hoffman is expected to arrive in September.
He was a licensed diesel mechanic and a talented welder/fabricator. For many years he operated a mobile welding service in addition to his full time employment. Over the years he was employed by Alger Trucking, Signature and his last employer was Advantage Logistics. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union.
Ronald was a farmer and passionate builder of all things mechanical. He was a gifted woodworker. His gardens were always bountiful and he generously shared the produce. He canned, baked in a woodstove, and loved working with his hands.
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he is survived by his mother, two sisters: Lynda Rowan of Texas and Lois (Martin) Lisowski of Monroe; two sisters-in-law: Beverly (Dave) Mushung and Sylvia (Richard) Mayes; and two brothers-in-law: Paul and Gerald (Brancy) Revard.
He was preceded in death by his father: James E. Hoffman; and grandparents: Edward and Gladys Hoffman and Jacob and Hazel Grummel.
