Obituary of Margaret Ellen Yoakum
Margaret Ellen Hargis was born on November 2, 1930, in Monroe, Michigan. She was one of three children born from the union of Oscar Hargis and Opal (Boyd) Hargis. Margaret attended and graduated from Monroe High School with the class of 1948. She married the love of her life: Scott Yoakum on June 25, 1949, in Monroe. The happy couple were blessed with the birth of two children.
Margaret took great pleasure in the simple joys of life, such as shopping at Kline’s in Monroe. In her younger years, Margaret was an enthusiastic participant in a weekly bowling league at the Nortel Lanes in Monroe. Bowling was a cherished pastime, allowing her to unwind and enjoy herself.
For over 20 years, Margaret worked as an aide at the Carleton County Day School, where she became a beloved figure among the children and their families. Her nurturing personality and patience made her an invaluable asset, providing a safe and caring environment for many children who flourished under her watchful eye.
One of her greatest joys was traveling to the family cabin in Curtisville. Almost every weekend, Margaret escaped to this idyllic retreat. The cabin, nestled in nature's embrace, became a haven for relaxation and reflection. After retirement, the freedom to visit the cabin whenever she wished brought her great happiness, allowing her to explore the beauty of each season at her leisure.
Margaret was also an ardent supporter of her grandchildren, attending their sporting events with great enthusiasm. Her presence in the stands, cheering them on, was a testament to her unconditional love and support. She also enjoyed getting a bite to eat at local restaurants, especially after one of her grandchildren’s events.
