Janet Belle Smith was born in Midland, Michigan on January 20, 1938.  She was the youngest of five children born to the union of Cecil E. Smith Sr. and Clara A. (Booth) Smith.  She graduated from Midland High School and then attended Valparaiso University.

Janet married Sherman Holzschuh on September 14, 1962, at St. Pete Lutheran Church in Hemlock, Michigan.  She was very independent and for thirty-one years Janet was employed by Dow Chemical.  She worked as an Executive Secretary to the President.  Being very well respected, Janet traveled with her boss to Los Angeles, being employed by Dow-Occidental later making the move to Houston, Texas and then Tampa, Florida where she made her home for fifty years.  She retired in 2006. 

A lifelong Lutheran, Janet was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Florida for many years.  She moved back to Michigan in 2019 to make her home in Monroe near her niece Teri and Gary Griffin. 

Janet S. Holzschuh, age 86 of Monroe passed away at 8:09pm on Tuesday; October 22, 2024, at The Gardens of Carleton Senior Living.  She had been under the care of Heartland Hospice of Monroe.  Her passing was preceded by her parents; her beloved husband: Sherman on April 2, 2019; and all four of her siblings.  To cherish her memory, she leaves fourteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Her care was entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway; Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070.  Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.  Janet’s earthly remains will be joined with Sherman’s in the Butterfly Garden at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Michigan.
