Obituary of Stephen Mark Curry

Please share a memory of Stephen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stephen Mark Curry was born in Huntington, West Virginia on October 19, 1957, to the union of James Curry and Lois (Stephen) Curry. After completing high school, Stephen moved to Michigan taking a position with General Motors. At GM he was a proud member of the United Auto Workers Local and worked until his retirement.

Stephen was known affectionately as "Uncle Stevie" to all, embodying a warmth and charm that drew people toward him. He had a zest for life and a brilliant mind, admired by many as someone who could have excelled on "Jeopardy" or dominated a game of "Trivial Pursuit." His family often joked that he was Google before Google, possessing an endless array of trivia and facts that made conversations lively and enriching.

Steven was also a passionate card player.  He possessed an exceptional ability to know exactly what everyone had in their hand during card games such as euchre, making him a fierce but beloved competitor. Whether engaging in handheld poker with his treasured coins or tackling a crossword puzzle without needing to glance at the clues, his talents were many and varied.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Stephen loved to watch the Tigers. His sassy, opinionated nature meant he never shied away from sharing his thoughts, and winning an argument against him was a true point of pride.

In his typical fashion, a car ride with Stephen was never quiet—his animated storytelling and dialogue often punctuated with his signature phrase, “and stuff and so,” made journeys together memorable. He had a special love for taking his nephews shopping, sharing experiences and laughter along the way. Stephen cherished the beauty of storytelling and had a particular fondness for “Gone with the Wind,” often quoting his favorite parts of the film to his family.

Stephen was a protective family member and the keeper of family history, delving into ancestry to ensure that future generations understood their roots. Whether he was living in Michigan or visiting West Virginia, he always held tight to his family ties.
