Obituary of Charles Leonard Shurmur
Charles Leonard Shurmur was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 26, 1936. The baby of the family, he was the son of Thomas H. Shurmur and Beatrice (Jarvis) Shurmur. He graduated from Wyandotte Roosevelt High School.
For many years he was employed in the automotive paint industry as a salesperson. He spent the latter part of his career working at Wyandotte Chemical Company.
The lush greens of the local golf course captivated Charles. He spent countless hours perfecting his swing. The sport became more than just a game to him, it was where he connected with friends to reflect and bond. In addition, Charles enjoyed sharing conversation over a cup of joe with friends.
Being deeply connected to his faith, Charles was an elder at the East Riverview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Charles Leonard Shurmur, age 87 of Monroe formerly of the Downriver Area passed away on Sunday; June 9, 2024, in the ICU of ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents; two children: Peggy Louise Shurmur and Gerald Thomas Shurmur; and all his siblings.
To cherish his memory, he leaves a beloved wife: Mary Ann Shurmur; two stepchildren: Melissa (JR) Natividad of Toledo and Nathan James (Ialeen Marie) Cline of Lincoln Park, Michigan; and one grandson: Grayden Cline Natividad.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Monday; June 24, 2024 at East Riverview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses; 18755 Civic Park Drive, Riverview, Michigan 48193-7602. His care was entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
