Obituary of Sandra Lee Pope
Sandra Lee Dubnicay was born in New York on September 18, 1948. She was one of three children born to the union of Paul Dubnicay and Evelyn (Beale) Dubnicay. She attended Roosevelt High School in Wyandotte, Michigan and although she didn’t graduate with her class, she was proud to earn her GED later in your life from the Wyandotte Adult Education program.
On May 10, 1968, at the Lucas County Courthouse in Toledo, Ohio, Sandra married the love of her life, Mr. Robert Pope. Together the couple were blessed with three daughters: Kimberly, Kerry and Kelly. Sandra worked in the family transportation business, Bell Transport, for more than ten years prior to her retirement.
Sandra was active in the Girl Scouts when her daughters were young. She loved bowling and was a bowling coach for all the youth leagues at Taylor Lanes. She enjoyed trying her luck at the casino in Ohio and loved spending time with her brother, Edward playing bingo at the VFW hall in Southgate, Michigan. Sandra was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Many cherished trips were shared to the wildlife reserve in Columbus, Ohio where they would feed the rhinos and giraffes.
Sandra Lee Pope, age 75 of Temperance passed away on Sunday; January 14, 2024, at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents: Paul and Evelyn Dubnicay; her husband: Robert on November 17, 2023; a daughter: Kelly Roberts in 2022; a son-in-law: Brian Roberts; and uncle: Robert LeClair.
To cherish Sandra’s memory, she leaves two daughters: Kimberly (John) Rose of Monroe, Michigan and Kerry (Frank) Soleau of Temperance, Michigan; one sister: Delores Sterling of California; a brother: Edward (Gloria) Beale of Southgate, Michigan; six grandchildren: Keith Pope, Kassandra Alexander, Haliegh Baehr, Nickolas Roberts, Cory Soleau-Pope, and Zachary Soleau; twenty great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
No public services are planned at this time. Sandra’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
