Obituary of Anthony Stanley Zmuda Jr.
Anthony Stanley Zmuda Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan on April 16, 1938. He was one of four children born to the union of Anthony and Stella (Laszezinski) Zmuda. Tony graduated from River Rouge High School with the Class of 1956. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from September of 1961 to August of 1963. Tony later honored fellow veterans by participating in the American Legion Post 337 Honor Guard.
Tony was employed more than thirty-eight years as a pipefitter at McLouth Steel. He retired in 1994. On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1989, Anthony wed the love of his life, the former Mary Kopski, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport, Michigan. The couple enjoyed traveling together across the country from New York City to the Hawaiian Islands. Social butterflies, they also loved to entertain family and friends in their home.
Tony participated in several local bowling leagues, where he made many friends. He maintained a vegetable garden which provided a bountiful harvest for canning every Autumn. A fan of the Detroit Tigers baseball team and Lions football team, Tony was fortunate to have attended a few games in person at their respective stadiums. He also enjoyed boating and casting a line in to see what was biting every now and then.
Anthony Stanley Zmuda Jr., age 85, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday; November 28, 2023, at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His passing was preceded by his parents; his beloved wife: Mary Zmuda on October 27, 2019; a brother: Joseph Zmuda; and his stepson-in-law: Dwayne Sandifer.
To cherish his memory, he leaves a stepson: Joseph (Alicia) Hall of Presque Isle, Michigan; a stepdaughter: Sharon Sandifer of Monroe; three grandchildren: Jonathon Hall, Amy (Anthony) Voyles, and Kyla Sandifer; two great grandchildren: Jase and Odin; his sister: Pat (Rich) Niezgoda of Canton, Michigan; and a brother: Richard (Joan) Zmuda of Ecorse, Michigan.
No public services are planned, and private inurnment of his cremated remains will take place at Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Brownstown Charter Township, Michigan. Anthony’s care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation, of Erie, Michigan.
