Obituary of Noel Sean Smith

Noel Sean Smith was born on May 15, 1969 in Toledo, Ohio. He was one of three children born to the union of Dan Smith and Kathryn (Sizemore) Smith.  Noel attended Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio graduating with the class of 1987. After high school he furthered his studies at the University of Texas in Arlington, Texas obtaining his associate degree. 

Noel served as a manager for Delta Airlines before going to work in the paint department of Ford Motor Company at their F150 plant in Dearborn, Michigan.  He was a proud member of the UAW Local 600.

Hoping to catch a monster walleye or a boat full of perch, Noel loved to spend his time fishing on Lake Erie.  An avid sports fan, he enjoyed league bowling at the Monroe Sports Center or cheering on his beloved University of Michigan and New Orleans Saints football teams.

Noel was passionate about country music especially enjoying it live.  Although, he didn’t have a favorite artist, he turned the volume up a little higher when he heard Hank Williams Jr or Toby Keith.  Noel was known for his bubbly, outgoing person.  He appreciated the company of others and liked to spend time with his family and more than anybody else his brother, Jason.

Noel Sean Smith, age 54 of Newport, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Thursday; November 23, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. His passing was preceded by his father: Dan Smith in 2019; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

To cherish Noel’s memory, he leaves a daughter: Reanna Smith of Dallas, Texas; his mother; Kathryn Smith of Monroe; a brother: Jason Smith of Monroe; and a sister: Tara (Robert) Braun of Norman, Oklahoma; numerous aunts and uncles; and his Ford Motor friends and family.

Friends may gather from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday; December 1, 2023, at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185.  A Celebration of Noel’s Life will be held at 1:00pm also at Merkle’s with Pastor Roy Southerland officiating. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
