Obituary of Perry Long

Perry Long was born on September 7, 1950, in Highland Park, MI. He was one of 5 children born from the union of John E. Long and Janette Shirley (Lash) Long. After graduation from Northville High, Perry proudly served his country with honor as a Enginemen of the United States Navy. Serving on the USS Saratoga from 1970 to 1974.

Perry took employment in the automotive industry being gainfully employed as a truck driver. From his early days hauling cars he traveled throughout the United States, and it was clear that Perry's love for automobiles knew no bounds. His prized possession, a black 1980 Mustang with a stunning red interior and a striking orange stripe along the side, was a testament to his discerning taste and meticulous attention to detail. As life brought Perry twin girls, he selflessly decided to part with his beloved Mustang to provide for his growing family.

Perry had an artistic flair, and it was evident in many aspects of his life. One vivid memory was the doodle of a car he sketched on his kitchen table. He simply assumed it would be wiped away when they cleaned the table next, but fate had a different plan, and the doodle stayed, serving as a constant reminder of his imaginative spirit and zest for creativity. One of Perry's proudest accomplishments was the painstaking restoration of a red 1966 Ford Thunderbird from the frame up; aptly named Senorita. Over the course of roughly two dedicated years, he poured his heart and soul into this project, epitomizing his unwavering determination. Perry also had a passion for music and would moonlight as a DJ on many occasions. This instilled a passion for collecting records from all eras and genres; his stockpile growing into the thousands . His children fondly remember singing along to the radio with him; always taking turns with the high notes.

As a security guard for the Camp Lord Willing RV Community, Perry dutifully safeguarded the park's tranquility. Rising at the crack of dawn, he faithfully drove his trusty black Ford F-150, a vehicle he had meticulously maintained for decades. Perry's dedication extended beyond his own vehicle, as he would willingly lend a helping hand in maintaining all the park's work vehicles. As a valued member of his community, he relished the opportunity to make impactful decisions for the betterment of the home and family he held dear.

Perry enjoyed going out for a bite to eat, and he possessed an extraordinary knowledge of diners near and far. Locally, he frequented multiple spots where everyone knew him on a first-name basis, and his order was always anticipated with a warm smile. Perry fostered a sense of community wherever he went, gladly providing recommendations to anyone willing to listen, for good, affordable food.

Perry Long, age 73, of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly at 8:40am at his home on Friday; November 24, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents; two brothers: Ralph and Phillip; and one brother: who passed in utero.

To cherish his memory, he leaves four children: Brian Long, Danielle Long-Miller (Matthew Jeffrey Miller), Kelly Lynn Long, and Holly Ann Long; a sister: Jeannine (Edward) Krolikowski; a sister-in-law: Mary Long; two grandchildren: Jack David Phelps and Adalin Jean Louise Miller; two nephews: Michael Long & John Krolikowski; and a niece: Jolanta Krolikowski.

Friends may gather on Friday December 1, 2023, from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. A celebration of His life will take place at 6:00pm, also at Merkle's.
