David Jewell Sr.

Obituary of David Alan Jewell Sr.

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Alan Jewell was born on September 18, 1955, in Monroe, Michigan.  He was born to the union of Roy Jewell and Nancy (Graham) Jewell. He graduated from Dundee High School and later attended welding classes at Monroe County Community College.

David was employed as a Foreman at Dundee Castings Company for forty-four years before retiring in 2022. A small business owner, as well, he operated “Dave’s Small Engine Repair” for several years. On May 5, 2000, David eloped to Las Vegas, Nevada to wed the love of his life, the former Margaret Ost. The couple traveled to many other destinations over the years including Yellowstone National Park, North and South Dakota, and Green Bay, Wisconsin. As a Detroit Lions football fan, David was not so pleased to step foot on “cheesehead” soil.

David could seemingly fix anything. If he didn’t know how to complete a task, in his way of saying it, he’d “Googles” to figure it out. He often utilized his welding skills to build/repair trailers and cars to help family and friends. David enjoyed being outdoors immersed in nature. He often traveled “Up North” to his family cabin in National City, Michigan where he loved cruising around in his golf cart, floating on the pontoon boat, fishing with the grandkids, and tending to a bonfire. More than anything, David cherished spending time with his family.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, David began riding as a teenager. He never hesitated to jump on his Harley Davidson Electra Glyde Classic and take off to any destination. David traveled to motorcycle rallies in Sturgis, Michigan and Daytona, Florida. He also participated in many charity rides including the annual Cabela’s “Ride for a Reason” which benefits the Penrickton Center for Blind Children. David played in softball and pool leagues most of his adult life. He also enjoyed watching old Western movies starring John Wayne. Although David was mostly quiet and reserved, he’d surely let you know if you made him mad! He had a great love for children, always letting his guard down around his grandchildren, David was often just as loud as them when they played together!

David Alan Jewell Sr., age 68, a lifelong resident of Dundee, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Thursday; November 2, 2023, at ProMedica Hickman Hospital in Adrian, Michigan. His passing was preceded by his parents and his sister: Lori Sue Jewell.

To cherish his memory, David leaves his wife: Margaret “Maggie” Jewell; three children: David Jewell Jr. of Dundee, Josh (Jackie) LaPointe of West Bloomfield, Michigan, and Tara (Darius) Taylor of Newport, Michigan; seven grandchildren: Melissa Goetz, Bethanie Grodi, Robbie Grodi, Chance LaPointe, Lance Taylor, Wyatt LaPointe, and Kairi Taylor; two great grandchildren: Camilleia and Juniper; three brothers: Dennis (Sandy) Jewell, Gary (Gayle) Jewell, and Tye (Robin) Jewell; and many nieces and nephews.
