David Markiewicz

Obituary of David Markiewicz

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

David Anthony Markiewicz was born on February 9, 1954, in Chicago, Illinois. He was one of three sons born from the union of John Michael Markiewicz and Florence Anna (Wozniak) Markiewicz. David graduated from Monroe High School, Monroe, Michigan, with the class of 1972.

David’s early years were filled with wanderlust as he explored the globe alongside his beloved family. His adventures shaped him into the kind-hearted person he became. He attended elementary school at St. Paul’s School in Burlington, Iowa, and transferred to middle school (7th and 8th grade) in Dacca, East Pakistan from 1966 to 1969, at DASS (Dacca American Society School); when his father moved the family from Burlington, Iowa, to this very distant country overseas.  This provided David several years of worldwide travel to places that included Thailand; Nepal; England; Africa, and many more.  One of David’s highlights in life was back in 2001, when he attended a 30-year reunion of friends, classmates, teachers, and parents from DASS in Chicago, ILL.

David worked in the construction industry, alongside his father, and worked in Monroe, Michigan on a Nuclear Power Plant; on the Alaska Pipeline; in Skikda, Algeria; in Virgina Beach, Virginia; in McPherson, Kansas; for his brothers John company in Florida; and in Jubail, Saudi Arabia working for the same company as his father.

David was very close to his Mom, and his brother Rick.  With the loss of these family members, David struggled with missing them daily.  He kept a photo of his mom by his reading chair throughout his entire life, and the photo was found by his chair on the day he passed.

Eventually, the journey of life led David and his family to settle in the peaceful town of Monroe, and then Dundee, Michigan. Throughout his adult years, David took on the role as an incredibly devoted caregiver for his mother, providing her with unwavering support and love as she navigated life's challenges. His selflessness and dedication to his mother was a testament to his genuine and compassionate nature.

While David was a quiet soul who often preferred solitude, those who were fortunate enough to know him saw the depths of his kindness and compassion. He touched the lives of those around him through his sincere acts of thoughtfulness, proving that sometimes, the most impactful actions are born from the quietest hearts. Though David was a private person, the memories of his presence forever shine bright in the hearts of those who loved him.
