Obituary of William Henry Ramsey Jr.

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

William Henry Ramsey Jr. was born on February 5, 1961, in Monroe, Michigan. He was the eldest of two sons born to William and Carol (Orns) Ramsey. Bill graduated from Monroe High School and later continued his education at Monroe County Community College. He also traveled to Texas to attend classes in pursuit of his dream of becoming a funeral director.

On April 27, 1985, Bill wed the love of his life, the former Tammy Morgan, at Bible Fellowship Church in Monroe. The couple enjoyed thirty-eight years of marriage and were blessed with three daughters. Although he was not much of an outdoorsman, Bill was among the first employees of Cabela’s upon its opening in Dundee, Michigan. He worked in the receiving area of the store for more than a decade before medically retiring in 2013.

A kid at heart, Bill had a talent for building structures with Lego blocks. He developed his skills in childhood. Bill built a detailed model of the Disney castle and had recently been working on the Titanic. A movie buff, he practically lived at the theatre, catching offbeat flicks such as the “Kill Bill” franchise and Rob Zombie directed films. He also appreciated the classics, akin to “The Poseidon Adventure”, “Star Wars”, and “Star Trek” and mainstream pictures like “Elvis”, and the Marvel movies. Bill recently watched “The Flash” and enjoyed it so much he watched it repeatedly.

Bill’s love of movies was equaled by his love of music. He attended many concerts and had an opportunity to take a photograph with his favorite band, “KISS”. Bill also managed to meet Rob Zombie, the B-52’s, and Cher. He was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and traveled to visit his home, “Graceland”, in Memphis, Tennessee. Bill and Tammy also took trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Niagara Falls in New York, and Frankenmuth and Mackinac Island in Michigan. The pair also played the slots in Las Vegas, Nevada and took a cruise which brought them through Galveston, Texas. Bill had a great sense of humor and never hesitated to share a joke with a stranger. His kind, caring, and gentle nature was evident to anyone who had the fortune to meet him.

William Henry Ramsey Jr., age 62, of Monroe passed away peacefully at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital on Tuesday; October 17, 2023. His passing was preceded by his parents and his father and mother-in-law: James and Mildred Morgan.
