Obituary of Rosalie Elizabeth Stroupe

Please share a memory of Rosalie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Rosalie Elizabeth Gallo was born in Dearborn, Michigan on December 15, 1942. She was one of two daughters born from the union of James and Catherine (Ribel) Gallo. Cookie, as she was lovingly known, graduated from Taylor Center High School with the class of 1961.

Cookie’s happily ever after began in high school when she met the love of her life. After two years of courtship, she exchanged vows and was united in marriage to Robert Stroupe at the courthouse on January 5, 1963.  Together, the couple welcomed the birth of their son, Jason, who brought immense joy and love into their lives.

One of Cookie’s favorite pastimes was gardening. Annually, she would plant vibrant flowers all over her yard, creating a beautiful haven of colors and scents. Her talent for nurturing and tending to her plants was evident in the stunning display she created.

As a source of entertainment, Cookie and Robert occasionally ventured to the casino to try their luck with the slot machines. Surprisingly, she had an uncanny ability to pick the winning machines, often coming out as a big winner. While she enjoyed the thrill of gambling, Cookie also found solace in watching television, particularly the news. Deena Centofanti on the channel 2 news station became her favorite anchor, and she looked forward to staying updated through her reports.

Cookie and Robert enjoyed exploring various locations within Michigan and Ohio. Among their favorite destinations was Hocking Hills, where they immersed themselves in breathtaking scenery and enjoyed sightseeing and shopping. Another place close to their hearts was among the Amish community in Shipshewana, where they treasured the simplicity of life and the unique culture.

Traditionally, many holidays were celebrated at Cookie’s home, where she lovingly cooked dishes with recipes passed down from her mother. Her homemade spaghetti sauce, prepared with pork neck bones for added flavor, was a family favorite. Additionally, her city chicken, a dish demanded by her loved ones for gatherings, became a hallmark of their celebrations. Unfortunately, as Cookie’s health began declining several years ago, hosting these events became very challenging.
